Meet the Social robots of CES 2017

This year, a lot of robots were to be found at CES. Big brand LG commits strongly to robotics with 4 new robots. Robots are rapidly on their way to become part of our daily lives. Personally, I am a big fan of social robots that can interact with humans and help us with our chores and work. CES 2017 had some interesting news to offer. LG launched an Airport robot to guide travelers and an Airport Cleaning robot. In addition, LG launched the Hub Robot (Alexa powered, very JIBO like) and a lawn mower. Bringing […]

What will you do when robots take over your work?

It seems to me that whenever we hear about robots in the news, the story is always negative. People worry about losing their jobs, but I think that attitude is far too pessimistic. Robots will make our lives much more fun and meaningful, and give us time to do the things we enjoy! Do you have any idea what you would do if you had lots of free time? I do. I want to spend even more time discovering new technologies and telling everybody about them, and travel to meet new people. My wife also […]

Respond to change – Agile

When I first started doing Scrum I was focused on project delivery. As a software professional I wanted to find better ways of delivering customer value and Scrum made total sense to me. But as I applied Scrum, I started to realize that Scrum isn’t actually about delivery; it is about change. What is Agile Methodology …. here is a quick overview. Agile is a group of methods based on iterative and incremental development, where requirements and solutions evolve through collaboration between self-organizing, cross-functional teams. Agile promotes adaptive planning, evolutionary development and delivery – a time-boxed iterative approach – and encourages rapid and […]

My Indian colleagues are very lucky people

My colleague Wies and I were invited by our colleagues in India to celebrate International Women’s Day with them. It turned out to be a very inspiring visit, which allowed me to actually meet my colleagues in Pune and offered me a look into the future of India. Because Decos India is truly an innovator in the IT world. On International Women’s Day we focus on equal rights for women. In The Netherlands little attention is paid to it but in India everybody celebrates Women’s Day. You shake each other’s hand and you wish each […]

Young people build bridges between India and the Netherlands with future-focused project

The other day I realized once again that a beautiful future awaits our children. This was illustrated by the Dreams Project set up by Decos at two schools. We asked one class in the Netherlands and one class in India to visualize their dreams for the future in the course of a week, and share those dreams with each other on a Facebook page and with Skype video calls. Results were truly astonishing: the youngsters were incredibly enthusiastic and presented fantastic ideas for their own futures. The project 30 students at Northgo College in Noordwijk, […]

Thinking about robotics on Back to the Future day

As I write this blog post it’s Back to the Future day. You can’t escape it; people are talking about it all over social media. Looking at what the movie predicted got me thinking about technology and of course a favorite subject of mine, robotics/AI. The flying cars in the Back to the Future movie may be a little way off yet, but we do have the partially self-driving Tesla and video conferencing was just imagination then but is now commonplace. We’re even about to see the launch of the first true hover board. Is […]

Oh, delicious wave of progress

We live in a magical time. Globalization is bringing people from all over the world closer together and makes solutions available to everybody, in part due to far-reaching digitalization. I feel like I am on the crest of the wave of progress every single day, with an ocean of new challenges and opportunities ahead of me. We climb that wave every day in a solid sailboat with a team of fellow enthusiasts. And I love it! The wave Society is rapidly changing. I see it all around me, both at Decos and in my personal […]

Use a crowd to solve problems

Technology is a wonderful means with which to involve crowds in public affairs. India is playing a pioneering role in that area. India is showing how technology can be used to resolve major issues. Potential India is a country with two sides. On the one hand, India has enormous potential. The country has more than one billion residents, is the largest democracy in the world, and has a huge economy. A study by the US Department of Agriculture predicts that India will be the third largest economy in the world by 2030. Prosperity is on […]
